south bay. i spoke with fans about the potential long distance relationship and they were nothing short of honest. would you go to a game in san jose? >> uhm....... probably not. just because i like to party a little bit and i wouldn't want to do the driving and drinking. >> they should be able to go wherever they can go and win with money and in san jose that's where it's at. it's not here. >> either way, wherever they're at, i'll be there. wherever they go, i'll always be an as fan. >> reporter: the as could stay in the east bay. the managing partner lew wolff says he is absolutely interested in reaching an agreement, an agreement fans say the east bay economy depends on. >> this is a working man's ball team. you know? $2 tickets today. where else can you go to get $2 tickets? >> reporter: the commission is planning other meeting with the as in the next couple of weeks. until then, first things first.

bay it was all about make an entrance. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec joins us live from ocean beach, where the military landed in style this morning for fleet week. hi, anne. >> reporter: it was quite a show here in san francisco. now that multi-agency exercise has moved down south to moffett field, where city leaders and military leaders are working now with the national guard planning for an emergency. but earlier the action was certainly here at ocean beach. >> can you turn south? >> reporter: it's a reminder that fleet week isn't just for show. an exercise that could save our lives in an emergency, a meeting between bay area first responders and the u.s. military to train for a major disaster. >> today is really the culmination of months and months of training with the san francisco department of emergency management and the city and county of san francisco. >> reporter: this landing craft air cushion traveled up from camp pendleton on the u.s.

macon island an amphibious assault ship sitting about eight miles offshore. both are capablof transporting everything from food and water to weapons of war. the marine set up a mobile hospital to test if it's ever needed an important exercise. >> it's one that i personally felt was necessary to do to practice not only the landing of an amphibious craft here but the understanding of the kind of help that we could get should our major arteries be clogged. >> reporter: fleet week is just one of many big events going on in san francisco this weekend. there's america's cup racing, the castro street fair, hardly strictly bluegrass at golden gate park, plus giants play-off baseball and the 49ers are playing at candlestick. hundreds of thousands of people will be converging on san francisco, an appropriate time to think of city safety. >> upon receipt of a request, we can point ships and some

capability in this direction quickly. >> what better place to show it than san francisco as part of fleet week to kick off all the events? >> reporter: now, tonight all of these agencies are having a meeting to break down what went right and what went wrong in this big exercise. you can find out more about all of these resources this weekend at fleet week. live in san francisco, anne makovec, cbs 5. more bay area headlines. berkeley fire investigators are trying to find the cause of an overnight duplex fire. five people got out safely including a woman in a wheelchair who was rescued by police. san jose police looking for suspects in connection with two shootings. a man was wounded near ezie street. hours later another man showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. both are expected to survive. a first-of-its-kind law in california is being challenged. governor brown signed a bill to stop therapies aimed at turning gay and lesbians straight.

a christian legal group is trying to overturn that law. the group filed a lawsuit on behalf of a psychiatrist who is also a pastor in san diego. it also names a plaintiff who has benefited from this therapy. the law takes effect january 1. president obama and gop challenger mitt romney squaring off tonight in denver. it's the first of three presidential debates and as bigad shaban shows us, the focus tonight will be on the economy, healthcare and domestic issues. >> reporter: the stage is set for the first presidential debate. mitt romney trails in many battleground state polls and this is an opportunity for him to gain some ground. >> i think you're going to see the mitt romney that really cares about putting the american people back to work. i think that's the most important goal that the governor has. >> reporter: president obama will be pressing his own plan for the economy. but today he is facing new criticism over something he said in 2007. during a speech to a predominantly black audience, then senator obama implied the

bush administration was withholding recovery money after hurricane katrina based on race. >> what's happening down in new orleans? where is your dollar? >> reporter: all major media outlets covered the speech at the time. >> i have to say i'm a little amazed that as you mentioned a widely covered speech likely by people at your network is somehow caused a kerfuffle five years later. >> reporter: millions of people will be watching anxious to see who has the best jobs plan. bill is try to find work. he has been a regular at this job center since he lost his job as a truck driver last december. the 61-year-old has been at a homeless shelter for five months and still waiting on both candidates to offer specific. >> they are spending a lot of time and money saying, we'll do this and that. we would like to see more results. >> reporter: romney participated in 19 debates during the primaries. president obama is also a

seasoned debater. bigad shaban, cbs news, denver. denver university students got a chance to stand in for the stars of the debate this morning. students look mighty presidential too took the mark for the president and mr. romney and the moderator jim lehrer. this picture made the front page of the "new york times" today. so that is pretty cool. technicians were testing the debate hull during the stand-in and everything is working fine. and you can see the debate right here on cbs 5 starting at 6:00 tonight. a tv news anchor stands up to bullying. >> still to come what she considers the learning moment after an email calls attention to her weight. >> but first, a rough day for hewlett-packard on wall street. when the silicon valley giant can expect a turnaround. hi, i'm meteorologist lawrence karnow in the cbs 5 weather center. we have cooler temperatures on the way, fog not too far away. we'll talk about that coming up. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

in to turn the struggling tech company around. hewlett-packard's ceo meg whitman expects earnings to fall in 2013 as she works to turn the struggling tech company around. she delivered the disappointing report to analysts and invests in san francisco today. hp is coming off its worst quarter ever and is aggressively cutting costs. still, whitman warned it could be 2015 before hp's revenue growth gets going again. investors didn't like that one bit. hp stock was down 11% in midday trading. it's down about 40% on the year. overall, the markets are about even on the day. the dow is down about 12 points. some students will have more options for medical school here in california. a national accrediting agency is now approving uc-riverside to open up a full medical

school. it will be the sixth uc medical campus. riverside can start enrolling future doctors next summer. forbes list of the highest paid women in entertainment is in. from the talk star to queen of talk the women on the list are hard working. take a look. coming in at number 4, talk show host ellen degeneres earning $53 million over the past 12 months. taylor swift ranks third with $57 million. and oops she did it again, pop star britney spears raked in $58 million for the number 2 spot. number one, who do you think it is? >> there she is. it's oprah, $165 million for oprah. doesn't have a show but has her own network. >> she is always number one. >> doing all right. fans in the east bay ready to make a little noise today for the oakland as. >> and a british siren joins the bevy of bond girls. a sneak peek at the new theme song. >> a lot of sunshine in most spots now but that sea breeze

that is going to fill in overnight tonight and push onshore. so the clouds coming back, the temperatures are going to be dropping off. today high pressure already starting to weaken. starting to see this low squeeze a little closer to the coastline so the sea breeze that's going to be deepening and pushing further and further onshore with clouds the next couple of days. temperatures are coming down. enjoy it. it's going away shortly. 88 in morgan hill, 87 milpitas, 72 degrees in pacifica although this afternoon, those temperatures probably dropping down to the 60s with that cool fog moving in. 94 degrees in brentwood, 94 livermore, 91 pleasant hill. inside the bay, we'll see temperatures soaring as high as 79 degrees in oakland, maybe about 76 degrees in san francisco. and about 88 degrees in santa rosa. next couple of days, we are going to watch those temperatures really take a tumble on thursday and friday. partly cloudy skies into saturday and sunday. and by monday, there is even a slight chance of scattered showers. so yeah, the weather has been fantastic. big changes are on the way.
